My professors have always been available and the opportunity to apply my studies and skills to research projects was great. My fellow student are good people and everyone in have met has some kind of truly unique capability. I have learned that being in the top 99% of GPA and test scores is great, but I routinely meet people in the top 99.5% and they seem many times smarter than me. Being around people like this keep me humble and motived. I like party scene, as I can alway find something fun to do whenever time allows. I also like that most of my colleagues are not trying to 'look' smart...and anyone who would try this would soon find that someone right next to them is many time more capable. - #5 Best Value Colleges in AmericaYale UniversityNew Haven, CT·4 Year·Rating 4.04 out of 5 1,064 reviewsSenior: Aside from the obvious (great academics and professors), there are just so many great resources and opportunities available at Yale. Unfortunately, you don't get any guidance or help accessing them, which makes the already wide gap for first-gen and low-income students even wider despite generous need-based financial aid packages. Also, the university administration is extremely out of touch with the students, and the YPD abuses their power on unparalleled levels both on campus and in the city. The students at Yale are not very socioeconomically diverse (as one would expect) but for the most part very kind despite the prevailing culture of "maximizing how much work you have to do." The food is better than any other college food I've tasted. Unfortunately, most dorms don't have A/C. The surrounding city of New Haven is wonderful, especially once you've exited the radius where shops upcharge you. The funding available for all kinds of programs is another highlight—whether you're interested in attending conferences, pursuing independent projects, or something else entirely, there's substantial financial backing to help make it happen. On academics, the professors are incredibly supportive and genuinely invested in student success. It attracts students who hold themselves to high standards which, due to grade deflation, adds to the stress of most students. The campus is beautiful in the more historic part of campus. The newer buildings are very clean and there are several food options. I don’t ever feel the need to snack with the amount of options I have in the undergraduate meal plan. The campus is beautiful and relatively safe. The staff is friendly, intellectual, and encourages creative thinking. In regard to academic programs, the University of Pennsylvania has world-renowned options, particularly in nursing and business (the Wharton school). One unique aspect of the University of Pennsylvania is its commitment to diverse populations and perspectives. Our freshman class this year has students from over 100 countries, bringing a variety of cultures and languages to the community at Penn. The University of Pennsylvania has a very selective admissions process but once accepted, the university is very welcoming and cares about the wellness of its students. - #12 Best Value Colleges in AmericaDartmouth CollegeHanover, NH·4 Year·Rating 3.88 out of 5 751 reviewsAlum: At Dartmouth, undergraduates enjoy the best of both worlds: the supportive, tight-knit environment of a small liberal arts college AND the top-tier resources and opportunities of a larger research institution. If you're undecided about your major, Dartmouth is an ideal choice because you may take classes across any department, including engineering, without needing to go through any administrative hoops or separate admissions processes — a freedom that many schools don't offer.Like many top-tier universities, Dartmouth’s professors are involved in cutting-edge research. However, what sets Dartmouth apart is its faculty’s commitment to students. In the Engineering Department, for example, professors often offer six hours of office hours per week (even if there are only four students in the class)! They emphasize this even in the more intensive majors. They also focus on creating a socially healthy atmosphere for students by allowing student leaders to have a say in campus policies, as well as providing, funding, and promoting social events on campus. They truly cultivate a close-knit community from the start with orientation week and your "o-week" family, whom you will meet with weekly during your first year. There are a lot of peer-led activities and peer leadership opportunities so students can receive help and perspectives from their peers on matters that affect them. - #23 Best Value Colleges in AmericaAmherst CollegeAmherst, MA·4 Year·Rating 3.88 out of 5 328 reviewsJunior: The most significant part of my time at Amherst is the people. They make what might seem monotonous, day-to-day life in Western MA an extremely fun and unique experience. Some aspects of Amherst such as the dining or housing leaves things to be desired. I know the new student center and dining hall is set to open in a couple years, but that has certainly been a big negative as someone with dietary restrictions. Also, housing, especially for sophom*ores, is particularly bad although it has gotten better as the wave of students who took a gap semester/year due to covid have graduated. Besides this, the quality of academic and social life is unmatched. I can go on and on for days about Amherst, but in summary it truly is a special place and I have loved my time here.... - #25 Best Value Colleges in AmericaUniversity of Illinois Urbana-ChampaignChampaign, IL·4 Year·Rating 3.8 out of 5 5,057 reviewsSophom*ore: Upon arrival to UIUC, I immediately felt the sense that I was welcomed and appreciated for being there. The professors are spectacular! My organic chemistry professor contributed to the COVID test, which I thought was remarkable that he contributed to such a significant thing, yet, he was teaching ME! This, nonetheless, is not a unique experience as most of the professors at UIUC have done something remarkable, too. The student life at UIUC is unlike one I have ever imagined. The connections between people of various backgrounds, beliefs, etc are astounding. One thing I think I wish would change is the dorm housing. UIUC has one of the worst freshman dorm housing. For instance, I stayed in Snyder Hall in South Ikenberry Commons, and while it was nice, it was definitely not worth $13,000 (a year) for staying in a shoe box that would sometimes have co*ckroaches in the bathroom. Outside of that, I do not have many critiques of UIUC!...
