Whether it's part of a larger presentation, as a short energizer, or to test your audience's knowledge, a Mentimeter quiz is the perfect way to bring out a competitive spirit and create a fun experience.

You can have several quiz questions and define correct answers to aggregate the total scores and reveal a final winner at the end.

Have a look at this short video to learn how the Quiz Competition works, or keep reading below to discover more.

1. Select the Quiz slide of your choice

There are two different types of Quiz slides:

Select Answer slides give participants predefined options to choose from, just like a Multiple Choice Question.

In Type Answer Slides, participants need to write the answer themselves instead of choosing from a list.

2. Select the correct answer

After you have typed in your question and answer options, you will need to select a correct answer. If you have selected the Select Answer question type, check the box next to an option to mark it as correct.

For the type answer slide type, you can add both a correct answer under “Correct answer” as well as other optional correct answers if there are other acceptable answers.

Answers here are not case-sensitive. You can also manually mark other submitted answers as correct while presenting by clicking the red X next to each answer and changing it into a green check mark (in case a participant misspells the answer, for example):

1. Select scoring setting

In the "Content" tab, you can toggle the option "More points for fast correct answers" to decide the scoring setting you prefer for your Quiz:

  • More points for fast correct answers toggled ON: Participants try to answer as fast as they can and are rewarded between 1000 and 500 points for a correct answer, depending on how quickly they submit their response.

  • More points for fast correct answers toggled OFF: If the option is toggled off, then all correct answers will award 1000 points. This is perfect for situations where you want to promote accuracy rather than speed.

For both of the above settings, incorrect or no answers give zero points.

2. Select time to answer

You can change how many seconds participants get to answer each question. You can give your audience more time to think, or add extra pressure to make sure they stay on their toes.

3. Add music to your Quiz

If you want some upbeat gameshow tunes to play during your Quiz, you can enable quiz music and select different tracks in the "Music" section of the "Content" tab to add sound to the slides.

4. Add a leaderboard

Lastly, add a leaderboard to show the scoring. It can be added anywhere in the Quiz, and will display the total scores up to that point. You can have a Leaderboard after every question, just one final leaderboard at the end to reveal the final winner, or a combination of both.

The Leaderboards only show the top 10 participants. If you want to know the results for all participants you can export the results to Excel if you have any of our paid plans.

And that's it! Now you're ready to present the Quiz.

NOTE: These quiz features (scoring, leaderboards, etc.) only work for Quiz type slides (not Question slides). If you want to use these features, make sure you have chosen the correct slide types. You can learn more about the difference between Quiz slides and Question slides here.
